ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Friday requested the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) to provide until August 25 details of all bank accounts, including credit and debit card vouchers as well as transaction statements, being operated by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and his family members. According to a senior official of NAB, the information requested from SBP will help in NAB’s ongoing inquiry against Ishaq Dar and his family members including his wife, sons Ali Mustafa and Mujtaba Hasnain, daughter-in-law Asma Ali and Saeed Ahmed, the incumbent president of the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP).
In its July 28 verdict in the Panama Papers case, the Supreme Court had directed the NAB to file references against the Sharif family, Ishaq Dar and others.
In compliance with the Supreme Court orders, the NAB had decided to file four references, including one against Ishaq Dar for possessing assets beyond his known means of income. The Supreme Court-constituted joint investigation team (JIT), which probed allegations against the accused raised in the Panama Papers, had in its final report noted that Ishaq Dar’s wealth had increased by a staggering 91 times, from Rs 9 million to Rs 831 million, within a very short span of time. The SBP will collect details from all banks across the country, compile it and furnish to the NAB.
