ISLAMABAD: The statement by Pervaiz Rashid prompted former interior minister Chaudhry Nisar to issue a strong-worded response.
“Don’t know why some people put the blame of their faults on the Interior Ministry. It seems that they are obsessed with the Interior Ministry and the former interior minister,” Nisar was quoted as saying by his spokesperson.
In a statement issued through his spokesperson, Nisar said that Rashid should have elaborated what type of “help” he was expecting from the Interior Ministry.
Rashid avoided answering exactly why he was removed from his office but said that his sacrifice was for democracy. The senator’s statements came at a time when Nawaz Sharif and the PML-N have been openly criticising the Supreme Court’s Panamagate verdict, hinting at a conspiracy and supposedly on a mission to protect the sanctity of the ballot.
In a recent interview, Nawaz Sharif had said, “When Musharraf imposed martial law, he and a few of his [fellow] generals were against me – not the entire army. The army was not even aware that martial law had been imposed.”
