LAHORE: An eminent lawyer, Zaka Ashraf, Friday moved a petition before the Supreme Court of Pakistan requesting it to order the Lahore High Court (LHC) registrar to release the inquiry report on the Model Town incident.

The petition was filed before the Lahore registry of the Supreme Court.

The petitioner stated that on June 17, 2014, around 14 people were killed and 100 others injured when police contingents attacked Minhajul Quran Secretariat in Model Town over the matter of removal of barriers placed on the adjoining roads of the secretariat.

He stated that one-man tribunal, comprising Justice Ali Baqar Najfi, had conducted inquiry into the incident and submitted a report but the government never made this report public.

He stated that a number of petitions were filed before the Lahore High Court seeking directives for the Punjab government to make the inquiry report public.

He stated that the report should be made public and its recommendations would obviously result in improving the governance mechanism of the entire Punjab province. He requested the court to direct the LHC registrar to make the inquiry commission report public on the website of the high court.
