Nawaz wants to shake up democracy: JI

Author: Staff Report

LAHORE: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Secretary General Liaqat Baloch has claimed that Nawaz Sharif was conspiring for a clash of institutions to avenge his ouster from the premiership.

Addressing a press conference along with Farid Paracha at Mansoora on Sunday, Baloch also said that ousted prime minister wanted to malign the judiciary to avenge his disqualification.

He said that Nawaz Sharif would have to appear before the National Accountability Bureau as there was no other option for him. Baloch said that all state institutions should move strictly in accordance with the constitution, and added that the NAB should file references against the Sharif family within the period prescribed by the Supreme Court.

On the issue of the youth elections in the party, Liaqat Baloch said that the JI wanted to make the youth responsible citizens of Pakistan.

He said that 1.8 million young men had become members of the JI youth. In Punjab, 2,000 young men had been elected while intra-party elections in Sindh and Balochistan would be held in September, he said.
