KHYBER AGENCY: The customs officials foiled two bids of smuggling of foreign and counterfeit currency notes from Pakistan to Afghanistan recovering a million Saudi Riyals and counterfeit Afghan currency notes worth 750 million from two smugglers at the Torkham border on Sunday.
Superintendent Naeem Khan told the media that that the Saudi Riyals were found during a routine search at the Torkham custom centre of a Kabul-bound trailer bearing registration number KBL-76777. The truck driver and the suspect, a resident of Nengarhar province of Afghanistan, were taken into custody. Similarly, the cache of counterfeit Afghan currency notes was recovered from the possession of another Afghan national during the security check. The suspect identified as Abdul Sattar was on his way to Kabul in Afghanistan. The suspects arrested in the two incidents were shifted to Customs House, Peshawar, for further investigation. The customs superintendent said that cross-border travelers were allowed only to carry Rs 3,000 worth of cash under Pakistani law.
