MANCHESTER: Everton FC forward Wayne Rooney became only the second player in the history of English Premier League (EPL) to score 200 goals in the competition after his goal against Manchester City on Monday.

Rooney remains 60 goals short of English legend Alan Shearer who has scored 260 EPL goals in his illustrious career with Blackburn and Newcastle United from 1992 to 2006.

Talking to post-match press conference, Rooney said that his milestone was a sweet moment for him and assured that Manchester United fans would have also enjoyed his goal against club’s city rivals.

“To do it today in such an important game for us, with tough games coming up, it was a sweet moment and I am sure the red half of Manchester will have enjoyed it as well.” Rooney said.

Rooney who scored 183 goals for United since joining them from Everton in 2004 further said that it will take a lot to catch Shearer but the 31-year-old remains hopeful he will continue to provide goals to his childhood club.

“To join Alan Shearer, that amount of goals, obviously a lot to do to catch Alan. No, but obviously it’s a great moment and hopefully a lot more to come.” He said.

In his 462 games in the EPL, Rooney has scored 156 goals with his right foot, 23 with his left and 21 with his head.
