ITU faculty’s research gets patent in US

LAHORE: The Information Technology University (ITU) Punjab’s Assistant Professor Dr Khurram Bhatti has been granted a patent in the United States for his research work on “Method for Scheduling with Deadline Constraints, in particular in Linux, carried out in User Space” by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Dr Khurram is the director of Embedded Computing Laboratory (ECLab) at the Electrical Engineering Department of ITU. He along with two other researchers from France – Dr. S. Bilavarnand Dr. C. Belleudy – were granted the patent. Speaking on the occasion, ITU vice chancellor Dr Umar Saif termed the news a remarkable achievement for the university. Dr Bhatti said that he has proposed to patch Linux operating system for hard real-time systems without modifying kernel.
