KARACHI: Sindh High Court on Friday heard a petition seeking meeting with an accused in MQM leader Imran Farooq murder case.

An SHC bench heard a petition filed by Beena Khalid, wife of Khalid Shamim, for meeting with her husband.
During the course of hearing, the court observed that according to reports of different law enforcement agencies and institutions, Khalid was in a prison in Islamabad in a criminal case. The court advised the petitioner to approach the relevant forum for meeting with Khalid Shamim.

As the petitioner Beena Khalid and his counsel did not appear before the court on Friday, the court adjourned hearing of the case for indefinite period.

Wife of Khalid Shamim, a key accused in the murder of Muttahida Qaumi Movement leader Dr Imran Farooq case, has moved to Sindh High Court against possible extradition of her husband and seeking court directives to concerned institution to allow her meeting with her detained husband.

The woman stated that her husband had been missing since 2011 and now the authorities had shown his arrest in Chaman.

The petitioner said that there was no extradition treaty between the United Kingdom and Pakistan and asked the court to restrain the federal authorities from transferring her husband to Britain for interrogation.
She prayed to the court to restrain the relevant authorities from shifting her husband outside the country. The court was also prayed to order the federal authorities to allow the relatives of the suspect to meet him.
Later talking to media after appearing before the court, MQM-P chief cast doubt over the boycott of MQM-called Multi Party Conference. He said it raised doubt that all mainstream political parties boycotted the conference at the eleventh hour.

He said that MQM-P had convened the moot with good intention and with all sincerity to take onboard all stakeholders on national issues.

“It was very surprising to face the boycott by all political parties. People of Sindh will reject these parties in 2018 polls,” the MQM-P leader said. “Everyone welcomed us when we gave the invitation and accepted our invitation but then we came to know about their boycotts through news channels,” he complained.
The MQM-P leader said that the Rabita Committee had decided to not collect sacrificial animal hides this year too.
