Oxford University Press hosts a discussion on 70 years of writing in Pakistan

LAHORE: The Oxford University Press (OUP) organised a discussion titled 70 Years of Writing in Pakistan as part of a series of events being held to commemorate 70 years of Pakistan.

The series include books on the nation’s achievements and outlook during this period as well as scholarly works, titles in gender and women’s studies, economics, sociology, history, politics, art and culture all written by experts in their field

Speakers in the discussion included Beaconhouse National University School of Liberal Arts & Social Sciences Dean Tariq Rahman, Lahore University of Management Sciences Political Science Humanities & Social Sciences Assistant Professor Taimur Rahman and social scientist, literary critic and translator Raza Naeem. The conversation centred on the evolution of literature and writing in the country over the past seven decades. The speakers reviewed and highlighted the literary journey of Pakistan, the literary personalities who have shaped it, the various factors that have affected the narrative, and the literary trends that have emerged over the years. The discussion was followed by a musical performance by Taimur Rahman who is also the lead singer of Laal band.

Earlier in his welcome address, OUP Pakistan Regional Sales Director Tariq Haq said that the OUP has published the Platinum Series to celebrate the country’s 70th birthday. The series include books on the nation’s achievements and outlook during this period as well as scholarly works, titles in gender and women’s studies, economics, sociology, history, politics, art, and culture all written by experts in their field.
