Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather shuts Connor McGregor down

LAS VEGAS: MMA star Connor McGregor lost his bout with Floyd Mayweather via a 10th round stoppage after Mayweather dealt with the early storm and took the Irishman to shores he never set foot on.

It is pertinent to mention here that this ‘money fight’ was McGregors first professional boxing match, and that is what made the difference, with Mayweather taking in the early hits and getting loose on the fatigued McGregor in the latter rounds using his years of experience.

Former welterweight boxing champion Mayweather had emerged from a two-year retirement to take on the Irish mixed martial arts star.

Mayweather heads into permanent retirement with a perfect 50-0 win record, one better than heavyweight legend Rocky Marciano.

Mayweather said “A win is a win, no matter how you get it, “Rocky Marciano is a legend and I look forward to going into the Hall of Fame one day.

Floyd announced his retirement and bowed out in style by winning this bout.

“This was my last fight tonight. For sure. Tonight I chose the right dance partner to dance with.”

This win reportedly took Floyd Mayweathers total career earnings to $1 billion after he won the $200 million from the sold out bout.

Meanwhile Connor McGregor is expected to earn about a $100 million even after a technical knockout ruled him out of contention.

Earlier the boxing match had to be delayed due to a very high number of pay-per-view requests.

The win sparked talk of Mayweather heading to the cage to fight MMA King McGregor in his favoured sport, but as it stands Mayweather has  bowed out with a win using his vast experience and composure.

As McGregor himself said “He’s composed, he’s not that fast, he’s not that powerful, but boy is he composed in there,” McGregor said.

“I thought it was a bit of an early stoppage. I was just a little fatigued. He was just a lot more composed with his shots.

“I have to give it to him, that’s what 50 pro fights will do for you.”

Mayweather was respectful of his opponent after winning the bout stating that McGregor did well to take the fight till the latter stages but, Mayweather himself wouldnt be an un-beaten champion if he would have allowed a competitior who was playing his first boxing bout to win despite his years of experience.

McGregor’s story is a life-changing one, he was an un-employed plumber four years ago and has  emerged as the champion of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) aswell as the undisputed king of mixed martial arts (MMA) and is expected to carry on fighting at just 29 years of age.
