BAHAWALPUR: The court has allowed a four-day physical remand of seven persons, including two sub-inspectors and naib tehsildars, who were involved in providing help to candidates appearing in the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) exams for the posts of sub inspectors.

District Police Officer (DPO) Dr Akhtar Abbas said that on a tip, police raided a hotel where people were busy helping candidates in their papers through latest electronic gadgets.

Giving details, he said that the accused were helping candidates through latest gadgets, including blue tooth devices, jack devices, pen cameras, micro earpieces and other instruments.

Dr Akhtar Abbas said that the arrested persons also confessed to providing such support to candidates in an earlier examination of the PPSC held on Saturday. He said that the police have registered criminal cases against Sub-Inspector Saifullah, Sub-Inspector Ahmad Naqas, Naib Tehsildar Muhammad Masoom, Amir Mehmood, Sameer Tariq, Saad Ahmad and Fahad Ahmad, and launched an investigation.

On the other hand, unidentified thieves stole computers, TV sets and other articles worth hundreds of thousands of rupees from the local press club.

Meanwhile, Rural Support Programme Network (RSPN) has started a 10-month drive on raising a voice for quality education to mobilise rural communities to demand implementation of Article 25-A, and to create a system of local-level accountability in the education sector. The project has been implemented by Rural Support Programme Network (RSPN) with the support of National Rural Support Programme (NRSP) in eight union councils of the rural areas of Bahawalpur.

Talking to the media, RSPN Project Manager Humaira Hussain said that 25 million children in Pakistan were out of schools. She said that education was a fundamental right enshrined in Article 25-A of the constitution. She said that the state was bound to ensure that every child was in school. Humaira said that the project’s primary aim was to mobilise all stakeholders on the issue of education and remind policymakers of their due responsibility of making Article 25-A a reality. She said that journalists would be engaged to highlight the district’s education-related issues that had been identified by local support organisations and District Parent Ittehad.
