Punjab Food Authority DG Asim Javed Wednesday said that on the special instructions of Food Minister Bilal Yasin, food safety teams conducted early morning and late night raids to check the quality of milk and meat.

He said that around 1,310 food points were inspected in the Lahore zone and a fine of over Rs1.5 million was imposed on five production units. He added that 705kg of unhealthy chicken, 5,210 liters of adulterated milk and huge quantity of expired items were destroyed. According to DG Food Authority Asim Javed, action was initiated for serious violations of Punjab Pure Food SOPs.

Moreover, several units at Tollinton Market were sealed and imposed a heavy fine after they were found violating food standards, he added. “There is a complete ban on the use of unhealthy ghee, open spices and prohibited ingredients in the preparation of food throughout Punjab.”

The DG went on to say that cases will be registered against those involved in forgery in Punjab. “The special teams formed are examining the quality of milk and meat at the entry and exit points of the city,” he said, adding that it is their responsibility to ensure the quality of food items.
