Imran slams Bahawalnagar incident, calls for equal law for all

Strongly condemning the Bahawalnagar incident, former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan stated on Tuesday that there should be equal law for everyone in the country.

The incident, which garnered widespread attention after videos depicting individuals in army uniforms purportedly assaulting police officials circulated on social media, sparked outrage among citizens and journalists alike.

Addressing the incident on Friday, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) issued a statement, emphasising that prompt action was taken to address as well as resolve the matter collaboratively between the military and police authorities.

ISPR regretted that certain elements with ulterior motives exploited the situation to propagate divisive narratives on social media, aiming to sow discord between state institutions and government bodies.

The Punjab Police also denounced what they termed as “false propaganda” surrounding the incident on various social media platforms.

The message from Khan was relayed by Chairman PTI Barrister Gohar Khan, and senior leader Sher Afzal Marwat following a meeting with him at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail.

Speaking to the media, both expressed frustration over the hindrance posed by a glass sheet separating them from Khan, which restricted their ability to converse freely.

The PTI leaders reiterated Khan’s stance that Pakistan cannot afford the existence of two different sets of laws. Gohar Khan further disclosed that Khan had tasked him and Omar Ayub Khan with mobilising the party in Punjab.
