KU approves nominations for representatives of academic council

KARACHI: Professor Dr Ajmal Khan, Vice Chancellor of the University of Karachi (UoK), has approved the minutes of the varsity’s Academic Council meeting held last week, Daily Times has learnt.

The minutes of the Board of Advance Studies and Research (BASR)’s meetings which were held after December 2016, have also approved. Apart from this, the varsity nominated some faculty members for various boards of faculties.

Newly nominated faculty members included Prof Dr Aalia Rehman, Prof Dr Maqsood Ali Ansari and Prof Dr Nasira Khatoon for the board of social sciences, Prof Dr Shaista Tabbasum, Prof Dr Nabeel Ahmed Zubairi and Prof Dr Wahab Suri for the board of faculty of Islamic Studies, Prof Dr Roohi Ahmed, Prof Dr Seema Munaf and Prof Dr Sameena Saeed for board of management and administrative sciences. While Dr Basit Ansari, Prof Dr Muhammad Raza Shah and Prof Dr Khalid Mustafa nominated for board of faculty of Medicine as representatives of Academic Council.

On the issue of holding KU Admission Entry Tests under Education Testing Council launched by HEC, committee comprising of all deans was constituted which will submit its recommendations in the next academic council meeting.

Similarly, another committee has constituted to look into the matter of winding up two years B.A, B.SC, and M.A and M.SC. programs by HEC. The Committee will submit its recommendations in the next academic council meeting.

In the same meeting VC nominated Prof Dr Muhammad Haris Shoiab and Prof Dr Shah Ali ul Qadar for the board of governors of the Institute of Clinical Psychology (ICP). Also, Prof Dr Shaista Tabbussam nominated for the board of governors of Pakistan Study Center as representatives of the Academic Council.

The varsity administration also approved inspection reports of different colleges for affiliation with the University of Karachi. The varsity’s council also permitted to increase quota from 15 to 30 seats for 10 years for the students hailing from FATA. The decision was taken after the federal cabinet vowed to merge FATA into KP province.

On the other hand, the council’s representatives who were nominated unopposed, said that lauded the exemplary gesture of VC for the unity of teachers in the academic council during the nomination of representatives of academic council in various boards of faculties and boards of governors without any election, since all of them got nominated unopposed.
