KARACHI: At least fourteen people including three minors were killed, mostly electrocuted, during the rains in the city as new monsoon system lash various areas from Wednesday’s night to Thursday morning. The local administration has sought help of Pakistan army for rescue operations.
Teams of Pakistan Rangers Sindh rescued people in various towns of the city during rescue and relief operation on Thursday while the Karachi administration has requested Pakistan Army for assistance in conducting rescue and relief activities in the city.
According to the details as monsoon rains continue to lash the city on Thursday one person was killed in Chishti Nagar Orangi Town area due to electric-shock.
In another incident, an eight-year-old was killed when a wall of a building belonging to the Federal Investigation Agency collapsed in Clifton area near Teen-Talwar in the aftermath of the heavy rains.
Body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where Executive Director Dr Seemin Jamali confirmed the death of the child. “The boy was brought here dead due to collapse of the wall. He was identified as Mohsin “,Seemin Jamali told Daily Times.
“We are fully prepared to deal with any emergency situation and we have alerted the whole staff” she further informed.
Meanwhile Officials of KMC were engaged in removing the debris from the collapsed wall , the DIG South Azad Khan informed.
In Orangi Town area, one person died when a wall collapsed in Fareed Colony near a ramp and was brought dead to Abbasi Shaheed hospital.
Near old Sabzi Mandi (Fruit Market), one person was electrocuted who was brought dead to Jinanah hospital.
One child was electrocuted near Anda Mor in north Karachi area while eleven years old boy was also electrocuted near Gabol Town in New Karachi area.
Mohammad Jawaid 35 was expired due to electric-shock in Bihar Colony of Lyari while in Bakra Pehri Baldia Town one person was also electrocuted who was later identified as Azeem-ul-Haq.
Likewise, one more person was electrocuted in 24 Market Area in Baldia Town who was yet to be identified.
Meanwhile in the road accidents due to rain one motorcyclist was killed while one person was killed as he fell off the roof of building in Gulshan-i-Mymar area and died on spot. The deceased who could not be identified were shifted to Edhi and Chhipa Morgues after the postmortems in hospitals.
Meanwhile, the Karachi administration has requested Pakistan Army for assistance in conduct of rescue and relief activities in the city.
“Karachi administration requested army for assistance in managing torrential rain effect in city,” the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement on Thursday. Army, ISPR added, is extending full assistance and water extraction pumps have been immediately given. “The COAS directs provision of all out assistance for helping citizens,” it said.
In view of the precarious weather conditions in various parts of the province, the officials in Pakistan’s Meteorological Department (MET) office in Karachi has predicted heavy showers on Friday as well.
