LAHORE: The district returning officer (DRO) NA-120 Lahore-III on Thursday, issuing a notice to Lord Mayor Col (r) Mubashar Javed, has ordered to halt all development work and projects continuing in the constituency as per laws of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for by-elections.
According to sources in the ECP Punjab office, the DRO issued the notice to the mayor through a letter in which it was declared that after announcing the schedule for the by-election in NA-120, no development work could be done in the constituency, so all the projects underway in NA-120 should be stopped with immediate effect.
The DRO took the said step after receiving a complaint from the candidate of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Dr Yasmin Rashid, who approached the authority with documentary proofs and some footage of ongoing developmental schemes in the constituency during her visit to the ECP office.
On Thursday, the ECP also issued a gazette notification of its final polling scheme for the by-election in NA-120. According to this scheme, there are a total of 321,786 voters in the constituency, of which 179,642 are males and 142,144 females.
A total of 220 polling stations would be established – 103 for males, 98 for females and 19 for both. In these 220 polling stations, 573 polling booths would be installed – 312 for males and 261 for females.
It is also mentioned in the gazette notification that no polling station was located outside the boundaries of the said constituency.
