MUZAFFARABAD: A teenage boy was killed in cross-border firing in Kashmir on Thursday, officials said.

According to reports, the boy was killed and his grandmother wounded in Chorhai village in Azad Kashmir after indiscriminate firing from Indian troops, local official Raja Arshad told AFP.

Nine people were wounded during the firing from the Indian side along the Line of Control (LoC), said Raja Azhar, a government spokesman.

Pakistan condemned the “Indian acts of deliberate targeting of civilians”, Foreign Office spokesman Nafis Zakaria said in a statement. Meanwhile, Director General (SA & SAARC) Dr Mohammad Faisal summoned the Indian Deputy High Commissioner JP Singh and condemned the unprovoked ceasefire violations by the Indian occupation forces in the Tandar, Subzkot, Khuiratta, Baroh, Bagsar and Khanjar sectors.

“The deliberate targeting of civilians is indeed condemnable and contrary to human dignity and international human rights and humanitarian laws,” the FO said. The director general urged the Indian side to respect the 2003 ceasefire understanding; investigate this and other incidents of ceasefire violations; instruct the Indian forces to respect the ceasefire in letter and spirit and maintain peace along the LoC.
