BAHAWALPUR: Members of the civil society, journalists, traders and representatives of non-governmental organisations staged a protest demonstration outside the Bahawalpur Press Club on Tuesday against the killings in Myanmar.

The protesters took out a rally from the press club to SE College Chowk. They were carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans against the silence of the United Nations (UN) on the genocide of Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar. Addressing the protesters, Anjmen Tajran President Syed Israr Shah, Bahawalpur Press Club President Junaid Nazir Naz, civil society representative Jamsheed Kraim, Aasia Kamil from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and others criticised the silence of the UN and Muslims countries over the killing of Muslims in Myanmar. They said that in Myanmar, children, women and the elderly people were being burnt alive and slaughtered like animals.

Accident: At least seven people were killed when a tanker transporting liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) overturned after hitting a van carrying a wedding procession near Uch Sharif. Four women and a child were among those killed in the incident. The injured were immediately shifted to Alipur hospital for treatment.
