5 ways ISPR ruled mainstream, social media on Defence Day

Author: Farhan Janjua

Inter-Services Public Relations’ (ISPR) has got to be the only government body in the recent while to have made the best use of the blend of mainstream and the digital media to simulcast its mega event held at General Headquarters (GHQ), Rawalpindi to mark 52nd Defence Day.

Following are key highlights to show why this was an impressive use of media technology.

Live on all national TV channels

The event was broadcasted across all national TV channels including several entertainment ones in the live simulcast. No matter what channel you turn, you could see it everywhere.

Live on Facebook

ISPR also broadcast the same feed using Facebook Live. Other than maybe PSL, Pakistan hasn’t seen many official events broadcast live on Facebook.

Live on Periscope

Periscope, also called Twitter’s answer to Facebook Live, is a popular app using which live videos can be posted on Twitter. Impressively, ISPR has also incorporated that for the first time ever to simulcast the massive Defence Day ceremony.

Catchy mini documentaries

The mini documentaries and songs shown during the ceremony were highlights of the event that kept everyone hooked to their seats. Ranging from Kashmir conflict, wars with India and Pakistan’s war against terrorism, the documentaries covered it all.

Diverse audience

The audience on ground was pretty diverse. It included families of fallen soldiers, war veterans, civilian and military leadership, sports and entertainment celebrities including singers and actors.

Pakistan observes September 6 as Defence Day to mark the anniversary of 1965 war with India in which Pakistan defended its boundaries.

Communication and information are crucial to shape up public opinion and hence have become important areas to focus for almost all the countries of the world especially the key global players. The media and communication for Pakistan armed forces is handled by ISPR.

By incorporating Periscope, ISPR has earned the following gif:
