Ex-army chief Raheel Sharif visits brother’s grave

LAHORE: Former chief of army staff General (r) Raheel Sharif paid tribute to his brother and 1971 war veteran Major Shabbir Shareef Shaheed on Wednesday.

A ceremony was held in this regard at Major Shabbir’s grave in the Miani Sahib cemetery. Lahore General Officer Commanding Major General Syed Mohammad Adnan, military officials and relatives of Major Shabbir were present on the occasion. Special prayers were offered at the event. Floral wreaths on the behalf of the president, Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee chairman and the army chief were laid at the martyr’s grave while a guard of honour was also presented. Major Shabbir was awarded Sitara-e-Jurat for his bravery in the 1965 war. He was martyred in 1971 war with India and was awarded Nishan-e-Haider for his exceptional gallantry.
