Resolution to increase minority seats filed in PA

LAHORE: Opposition party in the in Punjab Assembly, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Wednesday filed a resolution in the assembly’s secretariat, demanding the government to increase minorities’ representation in the assemblies.

The resolution was filed by the PTI’s female legislator Nabila Hakim Ali, proposing the issue of “less participation of minorities” in parliament.

“Minorities play an important role in progress and development of the country and their services for Pakistan can’t be ignored in any case so their seats in the assemblies should be increased immediately,” the resolution stated.

The resolution added that representation of minorities in the assemblies must be increased resolve the issues being facing by them.

It also asked other political parties to issue tickets to minorities in the upcoming elections.

Talking to Daily Times, Nabila said that it was a need of the hour to increase representation of minorities. She said that representation of minorities in the assemblies was not according to their population. She urged the government to take up the issue on priority basis.
