LAHORE: Civil Lines police have registered a case against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) youth wing leader Abid Mushtaq Chaudhry for allegedly harassing and torturing a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) woman worker – Nida Luqman.
The PTI woman worker had claimed that the PML-N youth wing leader approached her and dragged her out of the car on Friday night when she was making video of a container that had blocked The Mall for Maryam Nawaz’s public meeting in NA-120 constituency.
She said the attacker abused her, kicked her and even torn her clothes.
She informed her party leaders who immediately reached the spot and later submitted a complaint with police for registration of a case against PML-N youth leader Abid Mushtaq Chaudhry. However, police did not register a case.
Later, Dr Yasmin Rahid, the PTI’s candidate for the NA-120 by-election held an urgent press conference at her clinic located on Jail Road and warned of blockade of The Mall if police did not register a case against the PML-N youth leader for allegedly harassing and torturing Nida Luqman.
Dr Yasmin along with other PTI leaders, including Ejaz Chaudhry, Andleeb Abbas, Zaheer Abaas Khokhar, Khalid Gujjar, Shabir Sial, Sardar Azeem, Syed Adnan Jamil and other legal team approached the office of the capital city police officer and met the police officers of operation wing in the absence of the CCPO, who listened to their complaint and registered a case against the PML-N youth wing leader.
Meanwhile, the PML-N has announced to hold a traders’ convention today (Saturday) at Abid Market as part of the election campaign for the by-poll.
Maryam Nawaz, daughter of ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif who is also running the election campaign for PML-N’s candidate Kulsoom Nawaz, is likely to address the convention.
Earlier, Faisal Mir, the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) candidate for the by-poll, had distributed roses among voters during door-to-door campaign in the constituency.
On the other hand, PTI’s candidate Dr Yasmin Rashid also continued the door-to-door campaign in the NA-120 on Friday, “asking people to vote for change”
The NA-120 seat, a stronghold of the ruling PML-N, had fallen vacant after the disqualification of Nawaz Sharif by the Supreme Court in the high profile Panama Papers case.
