Bee Gul, who dramatised ‘The God of Small Things’, brings forth another drama serial

Author: By Muhammad Ali

Since her classical adaptation of the popular Indian novel The God Of Small Things, Bee Gul has established herself as an intelligent creative artist, for dramatising a best-selling novel written in another language, famous for its aesthetic appeal and its handling of some social issues including controversial ones was a difficult task which Bee Gul performed in the best possible manner, marking herself as equal to Hasina Moin and Muhammed Ahmed, two veteran dramatists of Pakistan, for Hasina Moin dramatised the novel The Portrait of A Lady by one of the most complex American novelists, Henry James in the early ‘80s and Muhammed Ahmed came up with his dramatic form of a Sandra Bullock rom-com ‘While You Were Sleeping’ in the mid 1990s.

Bee’s inclination towards literature is evident from the fact that while she writes scripts in a beautiful manner, the songs of her drama serials also happen to be compositions of pieces from greats like Sahir Lundhianvi, Faiz Ahmed Faiz and Gulzar.

Around the corner is another drama serial of Bee, which has been written for Hum TV, for which she also wrote a commercial piece ‘Zid’, casting Maya Ali and Ahsan Khan. This upcoming play by Bee is titled ‘Dar Jaati Hai Sila’ and is being directed by Kashif Nisar, who is one of the most talented directors of Pakistan with popular works to his name like ‘Sanata’, ‘Ulu Baraaye Farokht Nahi’, ‘Jinnah Ke Naam’, ‘O Rungreza’ and ‘Dooriyan’.

Bee has mostly worked with Khalid Ahmed and both have formed an admirable duo like many others in the drama industry such as Mehreen Jabbar, Muhammed Ahmed, Kashif Nisar, Saji Gul, Mazhar Moin and Faseeh Bari Khan. This new duo is expected to bring something wonderful too, for while it is known that Bee must have penned down something splendid and Kashif will utilise all his capabilities once again, the curiosity is regarding the result, which this duo will produce. The cast comprises of Yumna Zaidi, who has worked before in Kashif’s ‘Sanata’ and Nauman Ejaz who is currently working in the same director’s popular play ‘O Rungreza’. Accompanying them are Saman Ansari, Kiran Haq, Sheikh Mubashir and Sakina Sammo.

The name suggests that it is going to be a very different drama serial. If good and lovable pieces currently running on Hum TV are moving towards their ends, it is nothing to be sad about, for Bee is coming up with a play which is expected to be as bewitching as her previous works. The story is not known yet. Even if conjectured that it might be a typical woman-oriented play like most other drama serials, it will probably have a novel element attached to it.
