Army chief confirms death sentences of 4 terrorists

ISLAMABAD: Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa has confirmed death sentences of four hardcore terrorists.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement on Friday that the convicts were involved in offences of terrorism, including killing of innocent civilians and attacking law enforcement agencies/armed forces of Pakistan. On the whole, they were involved in killing of 16 persons and injuring eight others. Arms were also recovered from their possession.

Twenty three convicts were also awarded imprisonment of various duration by the military courts, the ISPR added.

Giving details of the terrorists who were awarded death penalty, the statement said that Raiz Ahmed, s/o Ghularam Khan, was a member of a proscribed organization and involved in attacking law enforcement agencies and armed forces of Pakistan, which resulted in the death of eight officials of police/Frontier Constabulary and injuries to five police officials.

Hafeezur Rehman, s/o Habibur Rehman, was also a member of a proscribed organization and involved in killing of three innocent civilians.

Muhammad Saleem, s/o Muslim Khan, was involved in attacking law enforcement agencies/armed forces of Pakistan, which resulted in the death of four soldiers and injuries to another soldier.

Kifayat Ullah, s/o Dilresh, was involved in attacking the armed forces of Pakistan, which resulted in the death of a soldier and injuries to two other soldiers. The convicts admitted to their offences before the magistrate and the trial court.
