BAHAWALPUR: Punjab Police Inspector General Captain (r) Arif Nawaz Khan has urged police officers and officials to ensure the maximum use of modern technology to effectively combat the incidents of criminality and terrorism.
Addressing the Police Darbar at the District Police Lines on Friday, the provincial police chief said, “The 21st century has posed gigantic challenges of terrorism and heinous crimes, which can only be eliminated by using information technology and wide ranging of forensic facilities that are being provided to the police force across the province.”
“To raise a modern, effective and state-of-the-art police force, it is imperative that Punjab Police further reactivate their close coordination and cooperation both with the media and all segments of the society,” he maintained.
The top cop told the Darbar that 25 percent of the 58,000 complaints – received through 8,787 complaints cells – were false, while 25 percent were adjudged as partially false.
Referring to the welfare of policemen and their families, the IG said schools and hospitals were being established to extend decent health and education cover to police officials and their families. He said that a 40-bed hospital in Lahore, while two schools, one each in Sahiwal and Multan, were providing education and health facilities to police officials and their families. He said that the Risk Allowance for policemen had been restored, while the Daily Allowance had been rescheduled. IG Arif Nawaz also appreciated DPO Liaqat Ali for welfare projects in Bahawalnagar. In his address, Regional Police Officer (RPO) assured the inspector general of effective use of all available resources to turn his vision into a reality. He also presented a commemorative souvenir to the IG. Earlier, the inspector general paid a visit to the Yadgar-e-Shuhada and offered fateha. Speaking on the occasion, the top cop said that 1,400 police officer and jawans had embraced martyrdom in the line of duty.
