LAHORE: The ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has planned to make a policy regarding home-based workers to give them a proper status of labourers. For the purpose, a woman legislator of the ruling party, Hina Pervaiz Butt, submitted a resolution in the Notice Branch of the Punjab Assembly Secretariat for making a policy for home-based workers.

Hina said in her resolution that legal cover to all home-based workers should be given in Punjab, as it was the basic responsibility of the state to protect the rights of labourers. She further stated that as many as 12 million women were rendering their services as home-based workers and all of them were looking towards the government for the protection of their rights.

The PML-N legislator urged the government to make and approve the policy for home-based workers and ensure their registration like other labourers, besides facilitating them in social security and health sector.

Hina told Daily Times that she would try to get an opportunity to table the resolution, as it was an important issue.
