ISLAMABAD: A five member bench of the Supreme Court of Pakistan begins hearing the review petitions filed by the former prime minister of the country Nawaz Sharif, his family and former finance minister Ishaq Dar on Wednesday.
The SC on Tuesday decided to constitute a five member bench to hear the review petitions regarding the July 28 Panama Papers case verdict rather than the three member bench that was constituted earlier.
The new bench headed by Justice Asif Saeed Khosa includes Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan, Justice Ijazul Ahsan, Justice Gulzar Ahmed and Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed.
All of the above mentioned judges were part of the bench that handled Nawaz Sharif’s disqualification and the filing of complaints against the other accused individuals.
Khawaja Harris is Nawaz Sharif’s counsel for the hearing meanwhile Salman Akram Raja is handling matters for the former prime ministers children and his son-in-law.
On Tuesday, Raja Akram Harris had pleaded to the three member bench headed by Justice Ejaz Afzal also including Justice Azmat and Justice Ahsan to form a larger bench to hear the review petitions.
The three member bench accepted Raja Harris’s plea and sent a request to the chief justice of Pakistan for the formation of a five-judge bench, which was notified later in the day.
