LAHORE: A housemaid was allegedly tortured and raped in Defence Housing Authority (DHA) Karachi on Wednesday.

The victim, a sixteen year old girl, who worked at a residential apartment in DHA Phase 6, was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre and later moved to the burns ward of Civil Hospital Karachi for medical treatment.

“I was tortured using heated iron,” the victim told the investigators. “I begged for mercy but they did not show any pity and continued torturing me. They also used to laugh at my misery.”

The girl’s father told the media that his daughter was raped and cited concerns about the absence of any female medico-legal officer in Jinnah Hospital because of which he had to move his daughter to Civil Hospital.

The police was unaware of the incident until the father of the victim himself went to the police station to register a First Information Report (FIR).

“The girl’s father approached us for registering a case,” Darakshan SHO Aurangzeb Khattab said. “Thank God the family informed us in time for us to apprehend the suspects.”

The SHO also said that the police have arrested five members of the suspect’s family including two women and have registered a case against them on behalf of the victim’s father, namely Muhammad Rafiq. He further said that the police are currently investigating the actual motive behind the incident.
