BAHAWALPUR: The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F), Bahawalpur Chapter held a protest rally starting from the General Bus stand and going till Melad Chowk against the violence currently being carried out against the Muslims in Myanmar’s Rakhine state, on Wednesday.
Led by Allama Shafqatur Rehman and carrying placards expressing solidarity with the Rohingya Muslims, the protestors demanded that the United Nations (UN) and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) take notice of the ongoing brutality in Myanmar. Addressing the protesters, Rehman said that the genocide of Rohingya Muslims is unacceptable and that it is the obligation of Muslims worldwide to raise their voice in support of the oppressed Muslims in Myanmar. The speakers at the protest criticised the UN and international leaders for what they called “criminal silence” on the issue. The protesters demanded that the UN, Amnesty International and OIC to play their role in helping the Rohingya people.
