QUETTA: At least one person was killed and 11 others injured in an explosion near the Chaman crossing along the Pak-Afghan border on Monday, Levies sources said.
The blast appeared to be a suicide attack targeting security forces, a senior administration official said, adding body parts of a suspected suicide attacker were collected by the law enforcement agencies during an initial sweep of the area following the blast.
“The injured have been taken to Civil Hospital Chaman (CHC) for medical treatment and one of them is in critical condition,” Abdul Hayee Baloch, the district police officer in Chaman, told media. A 12-year-old boy injured in the blast later succumbed to his injuries, hospital sources said.
Security has been tightened in and around the border in the aftermath of the explosion. Besides Levies, Frontier Corps personnel also reached the spot and cordoned off the area to probe the incident.
No one has claimed responsibility for the attack as yet.
