QUETTA: At least one person was killed and 11 others injured in an explosion near the Chaman crossing along the Pak-Afghan border on Monday, Levies sources said.

The blast appeared to be a suicide attack targeting security forces, a senior administration official said, adding body parts of a suspected suicide attacker were collected by the law enforcement agencies during an initial sweep of the area following the blast.

“The injured have been taken to Civil Hospital Chaman (CHC) for medical treatment and one of them is in critical condition,” Abdul Hayee Baloch, the district police officer in Chaman, told media. A 12-year-old boy injured in the blast later succumbed to his injuries, hospital sources said.

Security has been tightened in and around the border in the aftermath of the explosion. Besides Levies, Frontier Corps personnel also reached the spot and cordoned off the area to probe the incident.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attack as yet.

Meanwhile, at least two suspected terrorists were killed during a shootout with the police in Jalalpur Peerwala on Monday.

As per details, on a tip off regarding presence of suspected terrorists in Chak 23 of Jalalpur Peerwala, the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) carried out a raid in Jalalpur Peerwala. During the raid, an exchange of fire erupted which resulted in killing of two suspects. However, four others fled. Sources said that those killed belonged to a banned terrorist outfit.

Hand grenades and explosive material was seized from the hideout. CTD officials claimed one of those killed, Asghar, was group’s leader.
