Slow justice system

Author: Daily Times

Sir: A civilised society has three pillars — freedom, equality and justice — to its survival. However, justice is the backbone of any society, it grooms the social capital between state and people. It fosters contentment and happiness in people and its absence is harmful and totally weakens a society. Unfortunately, our criminal justice system is not working in an effective way. Criminals are easily getting free due to weak prosecution by the government. Same cases that ones grandfather and father have followed are being carried on by their sons and future generations, due to the slow system. There is also a parallel justice system working in rural and tribal areas and has dragged many innocent people in to the well of death. Due to slow justice, the country leads to anarchy; people violate the law and are also lured by extremists and terrorist organisations that result in the stunted growth of economy. Poverty and rampant corruption increase, it is a need of hour that the government ensures distributive justice in the country. It is time criminal justice system is reformed and speedy justice prioritised.
