ISLAMABAD: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Bajwa on Thursday said the successful holding of Peace Cup cricket match in Miranshah has proved that Pakistan has overcome the ‘difficult times’.
“This is real North Waziristan, real Pakistan. We are a peace loving nation. World saw today how a resilient nation overcomes difficult times,” army chief General Qamar Bajwa was quoted as saying.
The COAS congratulated Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), UK Media XI and the people on arranging the Peace Cup at the Younis Khan Stadium in Miranshah. “Peace has won in North Waziristan,” Bajwa said.
Pakistan XI beat UK Media XI by 133 runs in T-20 match on Thursday. The match was played as part of a Peace Cup organised with the help of PCB and the Pakistan Army.
The 18-member UK media team comprises journalists, lawyers, businessmen and academics who are touring Pakistan with the aim to improve its image as a sporting nation.
ISPR Director General Major General Asif Ghafoor also expressed the army’s commitment to eradicate the terrorism.
He noted that life was back to normal in FATA and the residents of tribal areas had all facilities available to them. The DG said the repatriation of temporary displaced persons (TDPs) has completed. He said hosting of matches will prove that Pakistan is a peaceful country.
