The Guardian, a British news outlet, published their documentary on the late Qandeel Baloch earlier on Friday. Saad Khan and Tazeen Bari created the documentary, titled Qandeel, which is commissioned for The Guardian Bertha Scholarship. Unlike some other efforts made earlier to tell her story, the documentary is mostly told using primary sources from Qandeel’s life, such as old videos, interviews and posts. It also includes opinions from journalists and social workers like Issam Ahmed and Nighat Dad. The 24 minutes long documentary deals with Qandeel’s economic status and her struggle as a working class woman and explores her growth and the wrath she faced on social media during her lifetime. It includes voice-overs from her sister and interviews with her parents, who recollect memories from the time she left behind her life in the city to come back home, where her brother eventually murdered her. A heartwarming documentary, Qandeel offers a refreshing and intimate insight to Qandeel’s life story and her struggle.
