Vegetable prices skyrocket in Dadu

DADU: The artificial prices of tomato, onion and potato have been soared in Dadu district main vegetable markets by middle men Daily Times learnt on Sunday.

According to a survey conducted by Daily Times, the price of tomato has been reached within two days from 150 to 200 per kg, Onion price has raised from 60 rupees to 100 rupees pkg, the price of Potato was also increased 30 per kg to 60 per kg but the district administration and market committee representatives failed to provide consumer relief in Muharram first ashra (Islamic month of Muharram first 10th days).

Talking to Daily Times, a vegetable consumer Akhlaque Ahmed said that as soon as the Holy month of Muharram fist Aishra has started the middle men of vegetable has been increased artificial prices of vegetables items which are used common in rice Barani during distributing among people in Muharram. Akhlaque said the price of Tomato, Onion, Potato and others common vegetables items prices were increased without any reason.

Akhlaque Ahmed Khushik said that owing to not providing daily base list vegetable price to middle men by market committee they were facing to purchase Tomato and others vegetables in skyrocket prices. He said that other vegetables including cauliflower, rigged ground, bitter ground, green chili, egg plant and other common vegetable price were increased owing to negligence of concerned district administrator.

Consumer demanded to Sindh chief minister Syed Murad Ali shah to take concerned authorities negligence and provide them relief in holy month of Muharram.

Dadu city vegetable market middle man Akthar Ahmed Chaaran said that owing to failure polices of Deputy commissioner Dadu Raja Shahzaman Kahahro last year the sell vegetable was not happened in main dadu market and big greedy middle men are giving them high prices that’s why Dadu city market local middle were compile to sell high prices of vegetables.

He said that in fist Muharram to last date this holy month the sell of tomatoes, onion, potato and others vegetables items prices increased of Muharram month because devotees were distributing Barina among people to pay homage to Imam Hussain Alaihi Salam and his companions martyred in Muharram.

Assistant Commissioner Dadu Muhammad Ali Lund said that he had visited before one day starting of Muharram the price of vegetables was less. AC Muhammad Ali Lund said that he along with revenue officials were surprising visit at main market of vegetable in Dadu and they have not received any complaint of consumer, local middle men against main market middle men of selling high prices of vegetables items. Replying the question about daily base list vegetables AC Muhammad Ali Lund said it was responsibility of Market committee chairman and municipal committee to provide daily list of vegetables middle men in market and because they are receiving daily charges to middle men of market.

While, our correspondent contacted Market Committee Chairman Shabir Ahmed Abro but he could not response about daily base list of vegetable prices.
