PPP won’t allow ‘mistreatment’ of any party, PM by judiciary: Bilawal

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman and former foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Tuesday said that any mistreatment akin to what Zulifqar Ali Bhutto faced would not be tolerated in the future, regardless of the political party or the prime minister involved, even if it is the PTI.

Speaking at the Golden Jubilee of the Constitution of Pakistan at Lahore High Court (LHC), he strongly criticised the judicial system. Bilawal lambasted the judges of both the LHC and the Supreme Court, accusing them of being involved in the alleged judicial murder of Bhutto. Referring to those judges as “killers” responsible for Bhutto’s hanging, Bilawal remarked that instead of being a place for justice, LHC has been perceived as a crime scene to this day. He expressed his optimism in the apex court, where Bhutto’s presidential reference is under review, stating that the judges there would cleanse the stigma that tarnished the judiciary’s image.

Highlighting Bhutto’s contributions to making Pakistan a significant power in the Muslim world, Bilawal emphasised that Bhutto was a victim of conspiracy and vowed to rectify historical inaccuracies regarding his death.

Addressing PTI’s founder, Imran Khan, Bilawal criticised Imran’s politics, accusing him of propagating hate among the youth. As Bilawal criticised Imran, members of the Insaf Lawyer’s Forum voiced their support for the PTI leader through chants. Bilawal, appreciating the democratic expression of differing opinions, emphasised the importance of positive politics for the country’s progress. Bilawal stressed the necessity of positive politics, historical correction, and the implementation of laws for the country’s advancement.

Bilawal criticized PML-N and PTI, noting their deviations from democratic principles once in power. He said someone wants to become what he called “Ameer ul Momineen” and the other “tiger”. Appealing to the bar councils, Bilawal urged them to cooperate in Bhutto’s presidential reference. Despite acknowledging the critical phase the country is undergoing, Bilawal expressed confidence in overcoming challenges and fulfilling the promises made by Bhutto for the nation’s welfare.
