Chinar Bagh Fiasco

Author: Ahmed Sheikh

Real Estate is full of surprises. One of the reasons behind this fiasco is the people involved and the money at play. The laws are too vague, and the opportunities are limitless. The main issue is with the financial savings of the poor and playing with the hopes and futures of families.

Many years back I had put my money in the Eden Housing Society, and it turned into a scandal. The man behind the play is dead and the case is still with the National Accountability Bureau. Money is still pending. My hopes and my amount all lost.

People do not realize the pain and agony behind their actions. They tend to live a life predictive of money and believe that they could become rich and famous. Money cannot buy class. It is no substitute for human empowerment and value recognition.

As a psychologist, I need to write and communicate about the anguish and pains of going through these ordeals. The amount of money lost, and the hopes associated with it. Having your own home is a dream. These real estate scams tend to build on these hopes. They continuously take money from the people and use that to build the infrastructure and buildings. But they work with the profits and tend to reutilize the money elsewhere.

For the last year, I have been fighting a case with the Chinar Bagh Housing Society. So many elective representatives have come and gone. During this fiasco, I have been meeting the affected community. Some people put their life savings in this cooperative housing society. Now the case is with NAB.

According to sources, there is a party that took money and did not purchase the land and hence the amounts are pending. It is in complete lingo. There is a continuous chain of unknowns. People like me are stuck. Money, hope, and future are all hanging on a thread.

The battle has been going on for some time. I am in no place to criticize the law process. I am only here to discuss the negative impact, the time wasted, and the loss of hope that continues with hundreds of people.

Psychological exists because of these fraud cases regarding real estate. These ailments need to be curbed.

A society of lawlessness comes into play. You create havoc with the minds and spirits. There is no substitute for the pain and anguish that comes through.

Perhaps the fate of the afterlife doesn’t sting as much as it should. Perhaps the real estate land will never come through. But what goes through is the loss of health and the opportunities gone through. I met with members who put their entire amount into this land scam. Some are waiting for the land to come through.

Accountability delayed is also a crime. We keep on going to the new society members for justice. They are facing an issue fighting the case. They were not there when the payments were made, and the land was never retained. Their time and energies are being utilized going to the courts and fighting a case. Payment made but land not retrieved.

I wish we live in a world where bylaws take place. No real estate tycoon can syphon money and take interest. This is a moral hazard. Taking other people’s money and building from the interest. Not buying land and keeping hopes high. These are all unethical practices.

This is coming to a point where it is become a community issue. I hope my article goes through to the agencies responsible for providing justice. It is high time we can accountability as a standard to deliver to the community.
