HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad circuit of the Sindh High Court has ordered the National Highways Authority (NHA) to stop collecting tax from motorists at at the Shewan-Jamshoro toll plaza.
During the hearing, the counsel for the petitioner pointed out that Indus Highway was built in 1990 and at that time the flow of traffic was around 2,000 vehicles a day.
He said that after the construction of the Amri-Qazi Ahmad bridge, connecting Indus Highway to National Highway, the load of traffic had been increased manifold, which was also leading to frequent road accidents.
He said that the authority was charging a heavy amount of toll from motorists and was not widening the road keeping in view of the increased flow of traffic.
Last year, the court had ordered the authority to renew load on the road along with provision of mobile ambulances but authorities concerned did not bother to comply with court’s order.
