Nawaz puts his weight behind PPP

LAHORE: Nawaz Sharif has decided to back opposition leader in National Assembly Khursheed Shah against Imran Khan, Daily Times has learnt. According to sources in the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Nawaz held meetings with NA Speaker Ayaz Sadiq and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif. Sources said Nawaz and Shahbaz met at their Model Town residence where the NA speaker also joined them to appoint a new president of the party. Shahbaz went to meet his elder brother straight from the airport upon his arrival from London. Sources said the meeting also discussed the current political and legal situation, especially the issues of corruption references against the Sharifs as well as the PTI’s move to replace Khursheed Shah with Imran Khan or Shah Mehmood Qureshi with the help of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan group (MQM-P) in the House. Sources said the speaker informed the party leadership about the constitutional and legal point of view in this regard. Sources claimed that the meeting decided to back Khursheed Shah. Nawaz is expected to leave for London today (Thursday).
