China hopes to encourage Pakistanis to develop superior hybrid rice varieties

Recently, at the edge of a rice field on the outskirts of Lahore, the capital of Punjab Province in Pakistan, Chinese staff from the Longping South Asia Seed Research and Development Center were busy transplanting rice seedlings with local farmers. The center’s head, Long Chunjiu, who has been in Pakistan for 14 years, expressed his hope to encourage more Pakistanis to develop superior hybrid rice varieties. His aspiration is encapsulated in the phrase, “My heartfelt wish is to ensure more people have enough to eat.”
