On the eve of RB Leipzig’s Champions League match against Red Star Belgrade, Danish striker Yussuf Poulsen inked a two-year contract extension, prolonging his stay at the club until 2026.

Poulsen originally joined Leipzig as a 19-year-old in 2013, during the club’s time in Germany’s third division.

Over the years, he witnessed the club’s remarkable rise, participating in their promotions to the second division in 2014 and subsequently to the Bundesliga in 2016. Poulsen has now etched his name in the record books as Leipzig’s all-time appearance leader, amassing an impressive 370 games and netting 85 goals.

In a statement, Poulsen expressed the deep connection he shares with the Saxon club, stating, “I was basically just a young lad still when I came to Leipzig in 2013.

It was a new country, a new language, and a new team for me. What’s happened since is pretty crazy. We’ve had two promotions, played in the Champions League, and, to top it all off, we’ve won two German Cup titles in recent years.”

Leipzig’s manager, Marco Rose, lauded Poulsen’s journey with the club as “an unbelievable story” and praised his strong affiliation with both the team and the city of Leipzig. Rose stated, “Yussi is someone who represents the club. He fully relates to the team and to Leipzig as a city. He’s come a long way since he’s been here. We’re happy that he’ll be staying for a bit longer.”

Hailing from Copenhagen, Poulsen has made 72 appearances for Denmark, scoring 11 goals. With Denmark on the path to qualifying for Euro 2024, he aspires to represent his country in the tournament set to take place in Germany next year.
