Van Beek expressed his frustration, saying, “I watched a Dutch sports show this morning and they were talking about cricket and laughing how it’s pretty similar to a nine to five job, how long it takes, and they’re making a few other jokes.”

He hopes that their recent success will change the perception of cricket in the Netherlands and that people will start taking the sport more seriously. A recent TV talk show even joked about the Dutch win being bigger news overseas than in the Netherlands, and they poked fun at the diverse backgrounds of the Dutch squad.

Van Beek and his team are determined to silence the critics and inspire the next generation of cricketers in the Netherlands. Despite their three defeats at the World Cup, they still aim to reach the semi-finals.

The Dutch team, currently ranked 14th in the world, earned their spot in the World Cup through qualifying in Zimbabwe, where they defeated two-time world champions West Indies. Van Beek highlighted the importance of consistency and credited coach Ryan Cook for their professional and organized approach to the game.

In their upcoming match, the Dutch will face five-time champions Australia in New Delhi, and Van Beek believes they are capable of causing another upset. He said, “We’ve come here to reach the semi-finals. That’s our goal. It’s been pretty clear throughout the whole preparation phase. And the South African win just gave us that extra belief that on our day we can still beat a good team.”
