Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif reaches Washington on three-day tour

WASHINGTON: Foreign Minister of Pakistan Khawaja Asif reached Washington on a three-day tour of the United States on late Tuesday and was received by Pakistan’s ambassador Aizaz Chaudhry at the airport upon arrival.

The foreign minister is expected to meet United States Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on Wednesday to resume bilateral talks and work out ways to navigate through the tension’s that emerged between Pakistan and the US after Donald Trump’s August 21 speech.

Asif is also scheduled to meet US national security adviser Lt. Gen HR McMaster during this brief trip meanwhile, the minister would also be addressing a gathering at the US Institute of Peace (USIP) in Washington on October 5.
