Funeral of martyred soldier held in Yazman

BAHAWALPUR: The funeral of Naib Subedar Azhar Ali, martyred at Rajgal valley in an incident of unprovoked firing by Afghanistan forces, was offered in Yazman on Wednesday. According to a press release issued by ISPR, Brig. Saulat Anwar Rana and other high-ranked officials attended the funeral prayers. Separately, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) distributed compensation cheques worth Rs 211,500,000 to the heirs of those who died, and to those who were injured in Ahmedpur East oil tanker incident. Senior Executive Director OGRA Imran Ghaznavi and Deputy Commissioner Bahawalpur Rana Saleem Afzal distributed the cheques. While addressing the ceremony, Ghaznavi said that OGRA has distributed cheques of Rs 1 million each to the heirs of the 183 who died and cheques of Rs 0.5 million each to the 57 who were injured in Ahmedpur oil tanker incident. He said OGRA conducted a swift inquiry into the incident and fined the concerned oil distribution company. Deputy Commissioner Bahawalpur Rana Saleem Afzal said that the cheques were given to the legal heirs of the 183 dead after proper verification.
