2,845 outlaws caught, Rs 730.1m seized in 2005

LAHORE: Lahore Police seized stolen goods worth Rs 730.1 million from 2,854 criminals of 626 gangs in 2005, a spokesman said.

The city police arrested 10,519 proclaimed offenders and 14,713 absconders during the year.

The 2,854 criminals confessed to 8,612 crimes including 17 robbery-homicides, 67 murders, 1,010 robberies, 1,982 burglaries and 5,516 other crimes.

The seized goods include Rs 6 million in cash, 677 tollas of gold jewellery, 164 cars, 332 motorcycles, 7 pickup vans, 12 auto rickshaws, 3 trucks, 2 Pajeros, 53 bicycles, 590 cellular phones, 10 computers and 112 televisions.

The arrested proclaimed offenders include 514 wanted in murder cases, 807 in murder attempts, 586 in robberies, 1,249 in burglaries and 7,363 in other cases.

Out of the court absconders caught, 26 were involved in murder cases, 387 in murder attempts, 42 in dacoity cases, 184 in cases of robbery, 803 in burglary cases and 13,271 in other cases.

In the campaign against illegal weapons, 9,505 cases were registered and 9,540 people were arrested. Police recovered 21 Kalashnikoves, 396 rifles, 550 guns, 1,782 revolvers, 5,658 pistols, 250 carbines, 159 handguns and 38,966 bullets.

Police arrested 10,635 drug dealers and recovered 2,973kg heroin, 3,041kg charas and 16,384 bottles of liquor.

Moreover, 1,320 cases of gambling were registered and Rs 6.8 million in stake money seized.
