Snowfall cuts off Chitral

Author: Staff Report

CHITRAL: Continuing snowfall has closed Lowari Top for every kind of traffic, cutting it off from the rest of the country.

Snowfall began a couple of days ago and has also damaged the main electricity transmission line from Dir to Chitral, suspending the power supply to the valley. Telephone services are also suspended in many parts.

Pakistan has inked an agreement with Afghanistan which allows people from Chitral to travel to Peshawar via Afghanistan, but it does not cover the supply of essential items and there have been food shortages reported in the valley. All flights from Chitral to other parts of the country have been cancelled. There is also a shortage of firewood.
