Sir: Kudos for your editorial, ‘The army and the people’ (Daily Times, June 01). It takes guts to call a spade a spade. Musharraf lamenting the plummeting image of Pakistan army can only extract a laugh. Who is responsible for the negative image of the army? Of course none other than General Musharraf himself who is still sticking to the post of army chief without any honest justification, despite triple terms.
You have rightly listed that he has failed on all accounts, evident from the failure of his proclaimed agenda after toppling over a civil government. He has dragged the army into the political quagmire as none has done before. His open endorsement of the fascist group involved in recent tragic happenings and utter disregard for judicial independence have further tarnished the institution of the army which he continues to head without rhyme and reason.
Despite his bravado as a commando, his mental (psychological) insecurity is behind all these undesirable moves.
