Sir: It was a pleasure to read a well-reasoned editorial once again amidst all the rhetoric emanating from both India and Pakistan. As you have rightly pointed out to both countries, interdependence must be built up sufficiently to remove the accumulated distrust of six decades. It is strange that the two countries, which have shared history, culture, language and food are striving to find imaginary differences and are sharpening the existing ones to further divide the two peoples. Indians and Pakistanis must isolate those that prevent greater integration through trade and people-to-people contact. While the Mumbai terror strike has certainly created problems, it should be used as an opportunity by both countries to further consolidate the peace process by recognising and resolving the common threat of terrorism facing both India and Pakistan.
