Securing supply lines

Author: Muqtedar Khan

Sir: It is encouraging to see the Pakistani military take action against the terrorist groups that are holding the NATO supply lines hostage. These supplies have been suspended temporarily as Pakistani gunships and tanks clear the area. While there are reports that the US and NATO are looking for alternate supply lines, those that are celebrating in the media should realise that these supply lines benefit Pakistan the most. They are a testament to our geostrategic potential, which we should exploit rather than give up. Further, Pakistani truckers and companies are benefiting from shipping these supplies, and they will be the ones losing their income if alternate routes are found. We need to put our interests first. The war on terror is our war as well, and as such, the US and NATO are our allies in this conflict. Those that are advocating permanently shutting down these supply lines, blinded by jingoism and their own agenda, do not realise the importance of this cooperation.
