Terrible trolleys

Author: Daily Times

Sir: It has been reported that a 19-year-old girl was run over and killed by a tractor trolley in Lahore. This is a sad and shocking incident, but it is not the first one that has taken place, and the authorities should not let event pass without action. Every day, we see tractor trolleys being driven irresponsibly in Lahore, and most of them carry cargo in a manner that threatens nearby pedestrians and traffic. There have been numerous incidents of these trolleys carrying steel beams without any protection or indication, and these steel beams have caused many deaths. While all vehicles, if operated recklessly, pose a threat; the threat is higher from these vehicles.

Such recklessness cannot be tolerated any longer. City authorities should ban the entry of these farm vehicles (yes, tractors are still designated as farm equipment, not road-worthy vehicles!) into our cities.
