Costly Eid

Author: Daily Times

Sir: People were very anxious to buy an animal for sacrifice this Eid but the prices of sacrificial animals became so high that it was just not possible. A good healthy cow’s price ranged anywhere between Rs 80,000 to Rs 100,000, whereas the same animal could have been bought in Rs 40,000 to 50,000 last year. This Eid, the majority of people bought goats instead of cows.

The slaughtering of animals is a sacred act but due to inflation this is becoming harder than ever for Muslims in Pakistan. The government should devise a mechanism in order to ensure that the rates are controlled and manageable in future years.
